Finding the right mattress can be a search that involves research, testing, and a lot of expensive trial and error. When you add in finding a way to get your new purchase home, buying a new mattress often involves a lot of stress. I had put this purchase off for too long, unsure which mattress is the best to buy and how to get it home. When I saw that the Helix Midnight LUXE would be delivered right to my door and came with a 100-day trial period, it seemed to solve many typical mattress-buying problems. When the Helix Midnight LUXE arrived, it took two people to get the heavy box up the stairs. Pushing the box on the carpet ended up being the best way to move it. We pulled the rolled up mattress out of the box, which was a job for two people. It took two people to hoist the mattress onto the box spring due to its 120-pound weight and bulky configuration. Even though Helix recommends unrolling the mattress before placing it on your bed, we waited to unroll it until it was up on the box spring. I was glad that we waited, as it would have been harder to move if it was unrolled. I used scissors to cut open the rest of the plastic. It’s important to be careful during this step to avoid cutting into the mattress itself. The plastic is pretty thick, but cutting too quickly could damage the top layer of the mattress. The Midnight LUXE mattress comes rolled and compressed. But it will quickly begin to expand as you cut the plastic away so that by the end of taking off the plastic, it will be much harder to manage by just one person. It wasn’t easy to slide the remaining plastic away from the mattress as it expanded. It would have been much more difficult to maneuver from the floor. The mattress needs a box spring or a platform bed. Helix has multiple bases, but you can also use any other brand. This mattress suited the queen size bed frame and box spring that I already owned. The LUXE mattress is 14 inches thick. It took an hour to expand fully. It remained curled at the edges for a few minutes before it unwound completely. The mattress has a two-inch pillow top made of Tencel, a fabric designed to increase airflow. Even during warm nights, I was noticeably cooler sleeping on the Helix Midnight LUXE mattress than our standard pillow top mattress. The mattress comprises five layers: memory foam, gel, polyfoam, coils, and a dense foam base. Helix states that the coils layer has over 1,000 coils, a zoned coil layer around the hips to provide added support for side-sleepers. After a couple of weeks of sleeping on the Helix Midnight LUXE, I woke up with fewer aches, and it was faster to get out of bed. I frequently read or work on my computer in bed, sitting up propped against my headboard. A too-soft mattress makes this very difficult. I prefer a softer mattress for sleep, however. The Helix Midnight LUXE struck a good balance between the two. If you want a true medium support mattress, this is a good choice. The Sunset LUXE and Moonlight LUXE have softer feels, while the Twilight LUXE and Dawn LUXE are on the firm side. If you are looking for a medium mattress from Helix, you can choose between the Midnight LUXE, perfect for side sleepers, and the Dusk LUXE, perfect for back and stomach sleepers. I appreciated the 100-night trial period. I would hesitate to purchase a mattress without feeling it first and knowing that I could send it back if I didn’t like the mattress. Helix requires that you keep the mattress for at least 30 days before returning it since it can take about 30 days to get used to a new mattress. This policy made sense to me. As long as you return it between 30 and 100 days, you can get a full refund. Fortunately, I love the Helix Midnight LUXE mattress and see no reason to return it. I am glad that I will benefit from the long warranty that comes with any of the LUXE mattresses. The 15-year limited warranty offers some protection against defects or damage, including deterioration, as long as you use a suitable bed frame or box spring to support the mattress. Helix notes that any slats placed five inches apart or more will void the warranty. I am a side sleeper. My husband sleeps on his back. The Midnight LUXE is one of the top-selling mattresses from Helix for couples because it can accommodate different preferences and sleeping positions. We both woke up feeling refreshed. The mattress is higher than the memory foam mattress we had previously used. While I enjoy this feature, it is difficult for my young children to climb into bed with me in the morning. Some parents may see this as a benefit, while others might prefer their children to climb up without assistance. Because the mattress is heavy, making the bed can be difficult. This is especially true if you have your bed pushed against a wall, and it is not easy to access from all sides. It takes some effort to lift each corner of the mattress to pull a fitted sheet around it. If you change your sheets often, this may become an annoyance. I have access to all corners of our bed frame, so it was too much of a challenge for me while changing the sheets. I recommend taking the Helix website quiz to determine which mattress is right for you. As expected, medium firmness is one of the most popular mattress types. The sleep quiz will ask your age, weight, preferred sleep position, preferred firmness, and if you regularly experience back pain. If you plan to use the mattress for more than one person, you can provide both sleepers’ information. Helix has an organic mattress, which we would probably choose for our children. They do not make crib mattresses but offer a twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. I was overwhelmed by Helix’s choices when picking out a mattress, which made the quiz so helpful. All materials that go into the Helix mattresses are made in the United States and conform to safety standards, and are free from known harmful chemicals. I appreciated the company’s commitment to making a quality product while keeping its workers’ safety as a top priority. Helix also offers a military discount, first responder discount, student discount, and teacher discount. While the high quality and great sleep made me happy with the mattress, the company’s values made me happy to support Helix. I would have preferred if the mattress came with a removable cover to come with the mattress. A waterproof mattress pad is easy enough to find, either through Helix or another retailer, but it does add to the already high cost of the mattress. I was happy enough to invest in this additional cost to make sure that my comfortable Helix mattress would last for years. It’s generally recommended that you replace a memory foam mattress every six to ten years, depending on how much you use it. Using a mattress pad will help increase the lifespan of your mattress. The mattress came with two pillows, an unexpected bonus. They were comfortable and soft, although not the best support. I liked them best when sleeping with both pillows stacked. Helix offers a wide variety of products, including four pillows, five frames and bases, sheets, toppers, pads, and weighted blankets. While not the most affordable, if the quality is as good as the Helix Midnight LUXE mattress, it would be worth the investment.
Helix Midnight LUXE Mattress vs. the Competition
Helix Midnight: Helix offers a standard version and a LUXE version of all their mattresses. The LUXE version includes an extra two-inch pillow top layers and the Tencel covering. It also comes with a longer warranty. If you are looking for a cheaper version, try the Helix Midnight. It has a similar firmness and is also good for sleepers of all positions, but it does not come with the pillow top, has a lower profile, and does not include the Tencel layer. It has great reviews and is a good choice for a guest room or a seldom-used bed. Zinus Green Tea Mattress: At $341.45, the Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch Green Tea Mattress is one of the most affordable mattress options. It also comes in a convenient box to your door, is easy to set up, and has a memory foam top. What justifies the Helix Midnight LUXE’s high price is the zoned coil layer, extra two inches of a pillow top, and Tencel cover. If you need a basic mattress for a less used space, the Zinus Memory Foam 12-Inch Green Tea Mattress is a great choice. Consider the investment in the Helix Midnight LUXE for a truly luxurious night’s sleep. This mattress offers a fantastic night’s sleep, and it is easy to get to your home. There is nothing to lose with the 100-night trial period and a great night’s sleep to gain by giving the Helix Midnight LUXE mattress a try.
